Tamarrud (2 c Authorized - Miss Hepburn, by Gone West) made a winning debut over one mile at Lingfield in England on Saturday to become the first  winner for  2007  Epsom Derby winner and shuttle-sire Authorized (Montjeu).

Tamarrud is bred by Darley and raced by the Maktoum family’s Godolphin operation,

Group 1 winner of the Racing Post Trophy at two, Authorized won the Derby and Juddmonte international at three. He stands at Sheikh Mohammed’s Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket and has 116 two-year-olds in his first crop. He has shuttled to Darley Kelvinside in Australia each year since 2009.

Pour Moi (3 c Montjeu - Gwynn, by Darshaan) became the first French-trained winner of the Derby since 1976 when he charged home at Epsom on Saturday. Trained by Andre Fabre, Pour Moi quickened brilliantly in the straight to run down Treasure Beach (Galileo) with the Queen’s Carlton House (Street Cry), who started the 5-2 favourite, running on for third after meeting trouble in running.

One-time shuttle-sire Montjeu has now sired three Derby winners with Pour Moi following Motivator (2005) and Authorized (2007), the latter standing under the Darley banner in Australia.

Fabre, who was winning the race for the first time in his illustrious career, said. “He’s a great horse with great acceleration. The speed he has is exceptional and he had a turn of foot twice. It’s such a pleasure to win this race with my young jockey and a big crowd - I’m so happy.”

Barzalona, the current sensation among European jockeys, said. ”It’s fantastic - absolutely amazing. It took Frankie Dettori 15 years to win the race and I’ve done it on my first ride. It’s especially great for Andre Fabre, who was winning it for the first time.”

Pour Moi races in the colours of Sue Magnier, whose husband John said: “I wish someone else owned the third [Carlton House]. Andre was confident all through last week. He told us that this horse had more speed than Peintre Celebre. Normally the trainer goes off the closer it gets to the race, but Andre was always confident.”

Michael Tabor, who also owns a share in the colt with Derrick Smith and Magnier, added: “It was sensational. He was at the back of the field but, having said that, it was all new and he was very good. We want to win, that goes without saying, but if we didn’t win we wanted it to be the Queen.”

THE gods always seemed to have a set against Nureyev, first, he was “robbed” of his victory in the English 2000 Guineas when the steward took a very dim view of the ride by his jockey Philippe Paquet and he was disqualified to last; then it was discovered Nureyev was not the most fertile of sires and, finally, he broke a hind leg and was lucky to survive. FEW observers could have envisaged when Danehill was the launching pad for the dual hemisphere use of sires revolution that in due course the world’s most prestigious race, the English Derby, would become dominated by progeny of sires who have visited Australia or New Zealand. (more…)
