Darley stallions have been in demand at the Saratoga Yearling Sale near New York. Superfection, a Medaglia d’Oro (USA) half-brother to Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, topped the opening session of the Fasig Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale on Monday when selling to John Ferguson, acting for Sheikh Mohammed, for $1.2 million.

Irish bloodstock agent John McCormack signed  for a Bernardini  (USA) filly at $950,000, making her the top-selling filly on the opening night . The filly is out of Grade I winner Sugar Shake.

Sheikh Mohammed also purchased a $750,000 Bernardini  colt, and a $600,000 Bernardini filly. Both yearlings were consigned by Gerry Dilger’s Dromoland Farm, agent.

“Well obviously, as you know, Bernardini has had a fantastic start to stud and they’re two very nice Bernardinis,” Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock manager, John Ferguson told the Blood Horse. “The colt is an exceptionally athletic horse, and he’s a particular favorite of Sheikh Mohammed’s. We’re delighted to have him.”

Darley yesterday announced the fees for 26 stallions it will stand in Australia for the 2011 breeding season, headed by Street Cry ($110,000 inc. GST), Shamardal ($88,000), Medaglia d’Oro ($77,000) and Commands ($66,000).

“The Darley stallions have enjoyed their best year yet. From our youngsters Nadeem and Ad Valorem who have had their first two-year-olds running this season, to our proven stallions such as Street Cry, Shamardal, Lonhro and Commands, we really have had a tremendous year,” Henry Plumptre, Darley’s Managing Director in Australia said.

“Looking forward, we are enthusiastic about our six stallion prospects with their first two-year-olds running later this year and are encouraged by the progeny of our even younger horses, some of which will feature at the forthcoming breeding stock sales. We look forward to offering breeders a roster of outstanding quality and talking to our clients in the coming months.”
