Two in 24 hours for Sebring

Smart youngster Bring A Ring (Sebring – Hennessy Waltz, by Hennessy) completed a terrific 24 hours for young Widden Stud stallion Sebring (More Than Ready – Purespeed, by Flying Spur) when she stormed to victory in Monday’s Listed Cinderella Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville.

Criterion (Sebring – Mica’s Pride, by Bite The Bullet) produced a similar big finish to claim the Listed Black Opal Stakes (1200m) in Canberra on Sunday, leaving Bring A Ring as the third stakes winner for the first season sire.

McEvoy Mitchell paid $70,000 for Bring A Ring at the 2012 Gold Coast Yearling Sale but the filly has almost recouped her purchase price with wins at her first two starts.

“She was very impressive that filly,” McEvoy told Sky Racing World. “She got a little bit further back than I thought she might but the speed was hot.

“God, she was explosive to the line.”

Bring A Ring’s dam Hennessy Waltz (Hennessy – Painted Blue, by Sovereign Red) was also a stakes winner. The mare claimed the Listed Angst Quality (1400m) in Sydney.

First stakes winner for Sebring in BD Preview

MAGIC MILLIONS RELEASE – Dissident has emerged as a leading player for the Blue Diamond Stakes after debuting with victory in Saturday’s listed colts and geldings preview at Caulfield.

Not an original entry for the race, connections including trainer Peter Moody will have to part with a $55,000 late entry fee to get their exciting colt into the field.

“I always thought he was not going to be ready,” Moody said.

“He’s probably been one of our immature two-year-olds and you saw that in his race manners today.”

“But he’s done everything right. He’s copped it well and he’s got the job done.”

“I really can’t wait for him next season. But they’re only two once and there’s a lot of nice races coming up, so we’ll keep those options open.”

Moody took a shine to Dissident when he was presented by Widden Stud at last January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. He went to $210,000 to buy him.

Winning rider Vlad Duric, who has ridden many of the Blue Diamond fancies, said the performance of Dissident was full of merit.

“He’s got a lot going for him,” he said. “He’s a beautiful animal.”

“He was a little bit new, which is fair enough at his first start and he went up the straight like a drunk.”

“When he had Kuroshio in front of him to down he saw him and he really attacked the line lovely.”

“It was a big tick of approval from me,” Duric summed up.

Dissident is the first stakes winner for the Widden Stud based More Than Ready sire Sebring.

A graduate himself of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Sebring won five races at two including the Golden Slipper and AJC Sires’ Produce Stakes.

A winner of over $2.5 million, Sebring has made a bright start to his career as a sire with stakes performer Frill Seeking and good winners Bring a Rin, Criterion, Australia Day, Kiss a Rose and She’s a Danica.

Dissident is the first winners, from two to race, for the stakes performed and Melbourne winning Anabaa mare Diana’s Secret.

Diana’s Secret, who won to 1400 metres, is a half sister to the stakes performed Sydney winner Heir Affair

Vinery hailing century for More Than Ready

Vinery Stud is celebrating the a century of individual Stakes winner for More Than Ready (Southern Halo – Woodman’s Girl, by Woodman) after Maybe So’s (More Than Ready – Wish On, by Grand Slam) win in the  Mountaineer Juvenile Stakes (1m).

Maybe So tracked the speed in the $100,000 event before hitting the line too well for his opposition at the Moutaineer Casino Racetrack and resort in West Virginia to record his second win from as many starts.

Australian racetracks have supplied More Than Ready with 44 individual Stakes winners, including the super Sydney mare More Joyous (More Than Ready – Sunday Joy, by Sunday Silence) and Golden Slippers winner Sebring (More Than Ready – Purespeed, by Flying Spur) and Phelan Ready (More Than Ready – Nancy Eleanor, by Blevic).

Benicio (More Than Ready – Mannington, by Danehill), Perfectly Ready (More Than Ready – Elle Duccio, by Danehill)  and Blue Diamond Stakes victor Samaready (More Than Ready – Samar, by Secret Savings) are also Group 1 winners sire by the top shuttle stallion.

More Than Ready stand his 12th southern hemisphere season in Australia in the spring. The stallion will command a $121,000 (inc GST) service fee this year.

Sebring colt tops opening day of MM National Yearling Sale

A New Zealand buyer paid $230,000 for a colt by Golden Slipper winner Sebring (More Than Ready – Purespeed, by Flying Spur) to top Tuesday’s first session of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast.

Top Kiwi bloodstock agent David Ellis purchased the chestnut, who is a son of the Group 1 winner Bramble Rose (Shinko King – Images, by Gleam Machine). Bramble Rose won the New Zealand Oaks as a three-year-old in 2003 before she was placed in the Arrowfield Stud Stakes as well as the AJC Australian Oaks in the same year.

Interestingly, the colt failed to reach a $150,000 reserve when he passed through the sales ring at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale earlier this year.

Tyreel Stud offered the yearling, who is a half-brother to the Patinack Farm-owned Stakes winner Maules Creek (Redoute’s Choice – Bramble Rose, by Shinko King), who fetched $400,000 as a yearling himself in 2009.

Hong Kong-based Magus Equine went to $190,000 to secure a son of Encosta De Lago (Fairy King – Shoal Creek, by Star Way) out of Slip Sliding (Thunder Gulch – Sister Dot, by Secretariat). Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox said the purchases were an indication of the strength of the overseas buying bench, which contributed to a gross of more than $3.9 million, an average of $33,647 and a 70 percent clearance rate.

“It was a good even sale today,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.

“We’re very happy with the attendance from around Australia and all corners of the globe – they are here to buy.”

“The internationals were very strong today – purchasing no fewer than 34 lots.”

Cambiaso gives More Than Ready 90 stakes wins

More Than Ready (Southern Halo – Woodman’s Girl, by Woodman) juvenile Cambiaso (More Than Ready – Flying Alpha, by Flying Spur) has created a strong impression with his win in Melbourne’s first two-year-old race of the season, the Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) at Flemington.

Trainer Danny O’Brien paid $300,000 for the colt at this year’s Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale. Cambiaso’s win returned $60,000 to connections but O’Brien said the youngster would have the opportunity to earn further riches when he returns from a break in the autumn.

O’Brien said Cambiaso, who was named after the Argentinean polo player Adolfo Cambiaso, had shown him a good amount of talent prior to his first start but would benefit from the experience and further time to develop.

“He’s a beautiful colt,” O’Brien said.

“He was a lovely yearling and he’s one of those horses from the minute you broke him that he was pretty special and he’s done this today pretty much on raw ability. He’s only had the one jump-out.

“We’ll put him away now. He’s going to be a really serious two-year-old in the autumn. We’ll give him a break and aim him for the Blue Diamond and possibly Sydney.”

Cambiaso provided More Than Ready with his 90th individual stakes winner and the Vinery’s first stakes success of the season. Cambiaso is bred on the same More Than Ready / Flying Spur (Danehill – Rolls, by Mr Prospector) cross as Golden Slipper winner Sebring (More Than Ready – Purespeed, by Flying Spur)

Widden offer packages

Widden Stud yesterday announced two new stallion fee packages for this spring aimed squarely at assisting the serious commercial breeder in what can only be described as a tough economic climate.

“We’ve been listening to our clients and have been looking at ways we can help breeders to get their mares covered by the best possible sires at a price that is affordable and as a result have come up with the following package deals,” said Antony Thompson.

“The Golden Slipper Winners” РSend a mare to our Golden Slipper winners Stratum and Sebring for $65,000+ gst (advertised price for Stratum $55,000 and Sebring $38,500).

“Choose Two for 50k” РSend two mares to either Northern Meteor, Sebring or Star Witness for $50,000 +gst (advertised price Northern Meteor $33,000, Sebring $38,500 and Star Witness $33,000).

Stratum was Champion Australian First Season Sire in 2009/2010 and will also be Champion Second Season Sire for 2010/2011 by earnings, winners and stakes-winners, while the first foals by Sebring and Northern Meteor will be offered as yearlings in 2012.

“Stratum has done all we could have asked of him and is well established now as the best sire of his generation, while the Sebring and Northern Meteor foals have impressed everyone and we look forward with great anticipation to the sales next year,” Thompson said.

Sebring and Northern Meteor are poised for the next stage in their stud careers, while global traveller Star Witness is due back in Australia soon to embark on his first season at stud.

“All of these sires are rock solid commercial options for the breeder seeking to produce a superior athlete and participate at top end yearling sales, so we expect these new packages to generate considerable interest and given the popularity of these sires, there may be a limited number of mares accepted under these terms, so we urge breeders to give us a call,” Thompson added.

“Widden have always maintained a willingness to work with our clients and are ready to discuss other package options with the best deal possible and this could include the likes of Champion 3yo sprinter and dual Group I winner Nicconi, who was the most popular first season sire last year.‚Äù
