Lonhro heads Sires’ list

Beaded’s (Lonhro - Subtle, by Night Shift) win in last Saturday’s Group 1 Carlton Mid Doomben 10,000 headed an outstanding day for Darley stallion Lonhro, who sired five individual winners around Australia and this on top of five stakes winners during the month of May to place her sire at the head of the General Sires’ List.

Beaded’s stablemate Scarf (Lonhro - Muffle, by Quest For Fame) provided the sire’s Randwick winner after the three-year-old gelding claimed the Blackwoods Handicap (1200m). The Paul Perry stable provided Lonhro’s ninth two-year-old success of the season when Diva Dior (Lonhro - Nurmaah, by Rock Of Gibraltar) took out the EJE Architecture Maiden Plate (900m) at Newcastle.

Lonhro’s winning run also extended to Victoria after the sire posted a winning double at Tatura. The Mick Price-trained Platamone Castle (Lonhro - Al Rosolini, by Waajib) took out the CPA Packers Handicap (1980m) before What A Treat (Lonhro - Modellista, by Redoute’s Choice) claimed the Phoenix Design Handicap (1100m).

Lonhro’s quintet of successes took his win tally for the season to 115 and has taken him to the head of the Australian General Sires’ List with $6,910,304 from 113 winners, ahead of High Chaparral with $6,870,190 from 27 winners. Last season’s champion Redoute’s Choice is currently third ($6,439,448 ahead of More Than Ready ($6,316,731). Click here to see this full General Sires list.

My Dinner with Nasser

My apologies for not posting on here for a while, but as many of you know, I took a trip Down Under to Oz – that’s Australia, mate! – and I was on the road for most of the trip, without internet access. But what a trip it was! If you haven’t been, get there ASAP. You won’t be disappointed. It’s one of the most beautiful places on earth, and horse racing is in the Aussies’ blood. (more…)
