COURT OF JEWELS
(Danehill - Nine Carat
by Sir Tristram)
This week STALLIONS
looks at the deeds of Court Of Jewels.
Court Of Jewels produced his first
winner when his daughter Regally Red beat
a field of boys’ in a Ballarat Maiden on Sunday, July 7th
and she did the job in grand style.
The Perugian had controlled the pace from the start
with Regally Red settling in fourth. Peeling out three wide on the
turn she challenged The Perugian at the 300m with both juveniles
getting away from the rest of the field. She got the better of The
Perugian to go on and claim her maiden victory at her seventh start
by 1-1/2 lengths.
Regally Red races in Mr Tong’s Black, Lilac
Diamonds and White Sleeves colours and she is trained for him by
David Hayes out of his Flemington yard. She must have impressed
Hayes early as she began her racing career last Christmas kicking
off with a second placing at Caulfield over 1100m. At her next start
at Flemington she was dropped back to a 1000m down the famous straight
course and got to the line very well finishing fourth.
Given a summer break she has
has since returned to racing facing the starter another four times
before her victory on Sunday. With now more than $26,000 in the
bank she has kicked Swettenham Stud’s Court Of Jewel’s
off with his first winner.
Court Of Jewels is an imposing
type standing 16.1 hands, he has an impeccable pedigree and is one

successful race and broodmare, Tristalove who in
turn is the dam of the Group I AJC Spring Champion
Stakes winner Viking Ruler and his full-sister
Chimeara, a multiple winning stakes placed mare
and the dam of the Group I STC Rosehill Guineas

Viscount (by Quest For Fame) and the Group
I placed Dangerous (by Danehill). She
is also a half-sister to Marquise (by Gold And
Ivory), dam of the Group I winning Shower

As a racehorse Court Of Jewels kicked
off his racing career as a two-year-old with a fifth placing at
Warwick Farm and broke his maiden at his next start with a two-length
win at Rosehill. A short campaign followed in the autumn when he
recorded his first black-type placing, finishing third in the Listed
Darby Munro Quality Stakes (1300m) behind the slick Century Kid.
He was transferred to Melbourne for the following
spring and Court Of Jewels had three starts in
good company performing consistently. Trainer Tony McEvoy returned
him to South Australia for his next campaign and Court Of
Jewels won two in a row including the Listed
Vannellus Stakes by two lengths. Returning to Victoria, he finished
second in the Heatherlie Hcp (1700m) and then he collected another
win over that trip at Flemington. Facing the starter another half-dozen
times Court Of Jewels campaigned in Queensland,
Victoria and South Australia without much luck but never far away
he was retired after suffering from a bout of cholic.
Court Of Jewels stands at Swettenham
Stud where his service fee this spring is $5,500.00
(inc gst) alongside Bianconi, Dash For Cash, Hold That Tiger,
Host, Keep The Faith and Soldier’s Tale.
