Tyreel

What appeals to you most about the MM sales and race series?
The introduction of the ‘Racing Women’s Bonus’ appeals greatly considering I am involved with the exciting two-year-old Every Rose (Gimcrack Stakes-Gr3, 1000m winner )
who was born, bred, raised and sold by Tyreel. I am thrilled to be involved in her ownership within a Ladies Syndicate.

In 2019 she was the highest priced Choisir filly and we also had the highest priced Pride Of Dubai colt (Kahaylaan). Being small breeders the opportunity to present our quality yearlings and be rewarded with sales ring results followed by on-track performance is everything we aspire to. The appeal for me is also in the location, the atmosphere and the diverse buying bench.
How would you sum up your farm and the service you offer?
Tyreel Stud is a boutique thoroughbred breeding operation which has become renowned for breeding, growing and presenting quality yearlings at all premium Australian sales. Tyreel, owned by Wallings Bloodstock, has built a broodmare band up to a comfortable level whilst still having a small number of special clients who have entrusted us with the care and management of their bloodstock. Our main business has evolved into primarily breeding and selling yearlings, retaining a small percentage to race.
How many mares did you breed with in 2019, who is the best known?
We bred with 31 of our own mares and a number of client’s. Currently the most well known are Pinocchio (dam of Group Two winner Classique Legend and rising Hong Kong star Aethero), Couredge (dam of Every Rose and the city winners Smartedge and Academy), Catalonia (dam of Listed winner Espaaniyah) and Written Dash (dam of Osamu, the highest priced Exceed and Excel colt sold to date and the highest priced yearling sold under our ownership of Tyreel).
What would you choose as your animal sidekick if you were in a movie?
I would have to say a horse. I grew up watching repeats of Mr Ed and I am positive they understand humans and I am sure they are talking to us on the inside. I was born an animal lover and would possibly have easily turned into Dr Dolittle given the opportunity!
What is your favourite saying?
One that I live by is ‘we all come into this world with nothing, we all breath the same air and we all leave this world with nothing.’ Work hard while you can and earn everything you have to enjoy!
If you could shop for free at one store, which would you choose?
I would choose the Magic Millions Sales and would love nothing more than to be given that opportunity!

Are there enough opportunities for young people to enter the thoroughbred industry?
There are some incredible opportunities provided by industry leaders for young people to learn and grow if they have the right attitude. We have some outstanding mentors who recognise that the younger generation are our future and I believe we cannot foster them enough. Not all people in our industry are designed to be hands-on with the horse but there are a lot of opportunities for people who have new ideas for the growth, development and management of the industry.
We also asked stud manager Robert Sims to summarise the draft…
It is an exciting one offering buyers the opportunity to choose from a diverse range of horses from a select draft. Boasting a full sister to a two-year-old stakes winner along with horses bred on proven crosses, the draft most importantly consists of a strong physical group of yearlings who will be a must see during early inspections. Highlights include:
Lot 122 – brown colt by Winning Rupert from Beaver Rocks (by Fastnet Rock):
a sharp looking, well put together colt from the family of the Group Three winner Care To Think. A fine example of the Winning Rupert breed.
Lot 171 – brown colt by Super One from Charleah (by Myboycharlie): a powerfully built colt possessing strength and quality. A real Magic Millions type closely related to the exciting Cosmic Force.
Lot 538 – bay filly by Not A Single Doubt from Miss HufflePuff (by Encosta de Lago): an exceptional, precocious type bred on a similar to Classique Legend and Mighty Boss; a real highlight of our draft.
Lot 170 – chestnut filly by Choisir from Champalou (by Encosta de Lago): a strong well marked daughter of an evergreen stallion, she is a sister to the juvenile stakes winner Champ Elect.
Lot 855 – brown filly by So You Think from Tender (by All American): a star of the class. A great style of horse; mature and well balanced, more forward than her breeding may suggest but still with scope for improvement.
Lot 909 – bay filly by Star Witness from I Am Here (by I An Invincible): a great mover who uses herself beautifully. A real trainers horse from one of the fastest families in the stud book.
