Tiger of Malay

Tyreel Stud’s name has been synonymous with Easter success for years and under the leadership of the Monds family the famed Hawkesbury Valley farm continues to excel.

At last year’s Easter sale Tyreel Stud sold five horses for a total in excess of $2.4 million and already those youngsters are making their mark with the exciting Tiger Of Malay at the time of writing being on a Golden Slipper-Gr.1, 1200m path having been so impressive winning at his spring debut at Randwick.

There has also been success from the 2019 draft, one which produced the recent Avondale Guineas-Gr.2, 1600m winner Rocket Spade whist the Hong Kong based high class sprinter Aethero emerged from the previous year’s sale, as did the 2018 Inglis 2YO Classic winner Espaaniyah.

It is another strong select draft this year, five yearlings who will be on everyone’s must inspect list…
Lot 124 bay colt by Pierro from Tender (by All American): the third foal for a stakes placed dual city winner whose first foal Orpheum is a metropolitan winner and whose $300,000 two-year-old Bidding is in the Busuttin & Young stable. Tender’s grandam is the Group One mare Kapchat, dam of the fast stakes winners Kaphero and Princesa (dam of the Group Two gallopers Star Of Giselle and Solicit) and grandam of the dual Group Three winner Nayeli. What a great family this has been over generations, its other members including the big race winners Courtza, O’Reilly, Our Pompeii, Grunt, Ocean Park, Critic and Glamour Bay.

“He is a very mature and masculine colt,” said Tyreel’s stud manager Rob Sims, “and he has great strength and presence as well as a very forward attitude and a loose moving action.”

Lot 167 bay filly by I Am Invincible from Written Dash (by Written Tycoon): half-sister to the twice stakes placed 2019 $1.7 million Easter colt Osamu out of a Typhoon Tracy Stakes-Gr.3, 1200m winner from a terrific local family that has produced the Group One gallopers D’Argento and Sizzling. Carries a cross of the wonderful Canny Lad as do five of I Am Invincible’s stakes winners including the Group winners Houtzen and Overshare.

“She is an exceptional physical type in the same mould of all the good I Am Invincibles. She has great strength through her shoulders and chest; she is a filly
of unique qualities.”

Lot 195 brown colt by American Pharoah from Angel Face (by Fastnet Rock): son of a half-sister to triple Group winner Cats Whisker and 3/4 sister to the Blue Diamond Stakes-Gr.1, 1200m heroine Catchy. Bred on a 5fx5m cross of the high class broodmare Crimson Saint; the same Storm Cat/Royal Academy combination that has produced the Group One winners Santa Ana Lane, Arrocha, Stormy Liberal, Sherwood Forest, Gytrash, Awesome Rock, Irish Lights and Foxwedge.

“A quality colt, great through his body. He is a late foal who has grown and developed; he is a promising colt with plenty more to come.”

Lot 279 bay filly by So You Think from Dowager Princess (by Savabeel): her dam’s first three foals are all winners including the promising Hong Kong galloper Spontaneous who recently kicked off with an impressive Happy Valley victory for the Paul O’Sullivan stable. Her dam, a winner at two in New Zealand, is a sister to the dual stakes winner Dowager Queen. Bred on the same So You Think/Zabeel cross (one which provides for a duplication of the famed matriarch Special) as the Group winners Think It Over, Higher Ground and So Si Bon, this filly can also boast amongst her relations the Group One winners Cologne, Sheralee, Rhythmic Charm and Swick.

” She is a classical filly with great size presence, scope and quality. Her good looks are matched by her strength and power.”

Lot 308 bay colt by Churchill from Flying Strike (by Stravinsky): his dam is a winning half-sister to the stakes placed Starry Light from the family of the dual Group One winner Bawalaksana and the Group winners Damaschino, Arbeitsam, Payroll and Shaaheq who was only just run down by Star Witness in the Blue Diamond Stakes-Gr.1, 1200m. From the first crop of Galileo’s European Champion 2YO Colt and European Champion 3YO Miler, this colt carries crosses of the influential mares Special and Lalun.

“A very athletic and angular colt who moves along nicely. Strong elements of Galileo can be seen in this colt who should appeal to Easter’s diverse buying bench.”

Linda and Laurence Monds and farm manager Robert Sims are all looking forward to returning to a live Easter Sale again, catching up with clients and parading these quality yearlings from their base in Barn J, Stables 39-43. ❖
