Emirates Park

EMIRATES Park has been established in Australia for 25 years and during that time has achieved a great success for breeding, selling and racing. His Excellency Nasser Lootah purchased Emirates Park (Blandford Park) in the Upper Hunter in 1989 and set out to establish a world class facility where he could enjoy his breeding and racing.

In 1991, not long after the establishment of Emirates Park, His Excellency bred and sold a very nice yearling for $150,000 who was later named Encosta de Lago. Of course recently pensioned Encosta de Lago went on to reach the pinnacle of racing and breeding, becoming twice Champion Sire of Australia, and now becoming a sire of sires through Northern Meteor, Manhattan Rain and other sons.

His Excellency has also reach the top in racing, winning Gr.1 races such as the Golden Slipper in 2014 with Mossfun, Coolmore Classic with Shamekha, the Doncaster with Secret Savings and Australian Guineas with homebred Al Maher, now a sire at Emirates Park. A huge passion for Nasser Lootah is watching progeny he has bred succeed on the track, and here success stories include Elegant Fashion, Dash For Cash, Swiss Ace, Fat Al and Almalad.

Wherever you turn you see a legacy of Emirates Park breeding, young gun Brazen Beau is from a Snaadee mare, the dam of Atlantic Jewel and Commanding Jewel, the Zabeel mare Regard was bred by Emirates Park; as were Secret Illusion (Secret Savings) dam of Secret Admirer; and Samar (Secret Savings) dam of Samaready; and Karrakatta Plate-Gr.2 winner Night War (a daughter of Samar). Stallions bred by Emirates Park including Dash For Cash, Swiss Ace and Encosta de Lago are leaving a lasting legacy.

In 2015 Emirates Park offers a world class draft of Easter yearlings the international market would be happy to buy. It’s a draft dominated by speed with yearlings by Champion Two Year-Old and Champion Sprinter, the five-time Gr.1 winner Dream Ahead (USA), and Golden Slipper-Gr.1 hero Sepoy, both first crop sires, along with lots by proven stallions Fastnet Rock, Snitzel and Lonhro.

The pedigrees of the 10 yearlings in the Emirates Park draft read like a who’s who of international racing and here’s a look at some of them. Lot 163, a bay colt by Dream Ahead from Schiaparelli by Woodman (USA) is a half-brother to Gr.2 winner and sire Rothesay by a five-time Gr.1 winner and from the family of Sepoy, Canny Lad and Earthquake. Second dam Canny Lass (Bletchingly) is a triple Gr.1 winner. Lot 193 is a chestnut filly by Sepoy from Snowgums (Redoute’s Choice). This is the first foal of a winning half-sister to Gr.1 winner Snowland, Gr.2 winner Portillo and stakes winner and sire Snippetson. This is also the family of Champion French Two Year-Old Colt and sire Myboycharlie (IRE).

There’s speed galore in the pedigree of Lot 250, a bay colt by Dream Ahead from What Fun (Canny Lad). He is a half-brother to Ken Russell Classic- LR winner Cat D’antibes and to Eye For Fun, dam of Golden Slipper-Gr.1 winner Mossfun. Lot 260, a brown colt by Lonhro from Zyoon (Al Maher), is from a half-sister to Encosta de Lago, the only filly among Shoal Creek’s five foals. This is the family of Golden Slipper winner and Champion Sire Flying Spur and traces to Gr.1 winner and influential mare Fanfreluche (Northern Dancer).

Champion Fastnet Rock is the sire of Lot 386, a bay filly from Enshraah (Fusaichi Pegasus (USA)). The dam is a half-sister to multiple Group winner Elegant Fashion (dam of Star Fashion) and her third dam is the English 1000 Guineas-Gr.1 winner Highclere (Queen’s Hussar), dam of Gr.2 winner Height of Fashion (dam of Derby winner Nashwan and Gr.1 winner Nayef, both sires) and Gr.2 placed Highbrow (dam of Gr.1 winner My Kingdom of Fife).

Lot 445 is an outstanding colt by champion Dream Ahead and from Ilhaam (Secret Savings). This yearling is a half-brother to Gr.1 winner Almalad and his dam is a half-sister to triple Gr.1 winner County Tyrone and a sister to Samar (dam of Samaready and Night War).

In 2015 Emirates Park’s sire Dream Ahead (Diktat-Land of Dreams by Cadeaux Genereux) has his first yearlings selling in Australia. Dream Ahead was a precocious juvenile, winning his first three starts including two Gr.1 races, and was crowned Co-Champion Two Year-Old with Frankel. At three he dominated the sprinting ranks in Europe winning Newmarket July Cup, defeating top class sprinters including Star Witness; at his final start Dream Ahead had a defining win over 14-time Gr.1 winner Goldikova in the Prix De La Foret.

Dream Ahead has been very well received at yearling sales around the world with top prices of $860,000; $650,000; $560,000; $520,000; $460,000 and $380,000 and the top judges are buying them including Shadwell Stud, Qatar Racing, Mr Pan Sutong, China Horse Club, Moyglare Stud, Gerald Ryan, Aquanita Racing, Malua Racing, John Warren; John Thompson and Rabbah Bloodstock.

Dream Ahead is an interesting stallion for yearling buyers to consider. He was a champion sprinter as were his first three paternal sires Diktat, Warning and Known Fact. His dam sire Cadeaux Generaux was also champion sprinter and his first three dams were also very good sprinters. So if you’re after speed then Dream Ahead could be your stallion. Best of all he is an outcross, and in Australia we are desperate for a major stallion free of Danzig. When you buy a yearling from Emirates Park you might just be buying a future stallion, Gr.1 winner or future champion.
