CHAMPION sire More Than Ready (USA) (Southern Halo-Woodman’s Girl by Woodman (USA)) headlines Vinery Stud’s outstanding consignment of 18 yearlings for the Inglis Easter Sale starting on April 7. The Gr.1 winner and leading sire with runners like Sebring, More Joyous and Samaready among more than 130 stakes winners, had five lots make $500,000 or more at the 2014 Easter Sale and he has another 30 yearlings this year including Vinery fillies from Gr.1 mares Sacred Choice and Bollinger.

More Than Ready’s filly (Lot 149) out of dual Gr.1 winner Sacred Choice (Choisir), has pleased Vinery sales manager Adam White. “She has really impressed and developed since starting her preparation for Easter. More Than Ready can obviously get a filly of high quality, and this filly also has great residual value.”

Sacred Choice won the Doncaster Handicap-Gr.1 and Myer Classic-Gr.1 before Vinery bought her privately in June 2012. Her first foal is this More Than Ready filly catalogued for the first session of the Easter Sale.

Vinery presents a More Than Ready from one of its most successful families when the filly out of Bollinger (Dehere (USA)) parades as Lot 314. This yearling’s dam was a Gr.1 winner of the Coolmore Classic before transferring to Kentucky where she foaled four winners including Friesan Fire (Louisiana Derby-Gr.2). Bollinger, whose dam is Golden Slipper- Gr.1 winner Bint Marscay (Marscay), was repatriated to Australia and her first southern foal is a two year-old More Than Ready filly named Madame Lily who has been retained by Vinery. “Her second foal down here is a nice, quality filly,” White said. “It’s an exceptional pedigree - one of the best in the Stud Book. Her close relation Always Allison looks very talanted”.

The Chris Waller-trained Always Allison won on debut at Warwick Farm and then again in February in the Sweet Embrace S-Gr.2. Another daughter of More Than Ready, she is from Rhema (Fusaichi Pegasus), a half-sister to Benicio (Victorian Derby-Gr.1) and Romneya (Moonee Valley Classic-Gr.2), all from Bint Marscay’s Group-winning daughter Mannington (Danehill).

Vinery has also catalogued a More Than Ready filly from Champagne Harmony (Choisir) as Lot 330. Her dam won the Yallambee Classic-Gr.2 in Adelaide and her two year-old sister was purchased by Sam Kavanagh for $150,000 at the 2014 Easter Sale.

Apart from More Than Ready and fellow residents Mossman and Congrats (USA), Vinery’s Easter entrants are by Hunter Valley stallions Redoute’s Choice, Snitzel, Commands, So You Think (NZ), Street Cry (IRE), Lonhro, Smart Missile, Stratum and Medaglia d’Oro (USA). Champion sire Lonhro was the first Australian stallion to break through the 100 winner mark this season and his Easter colt from 2003 Golden Slipper-Gr.1 winner Polar Success (Lot 107) is being sold as agent for Twin Palms Stud. Polar Success won four races and more than $2.1m and the latest of her five winners is Melbourne two year-old Group performer Lockroy. Her sire, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile-Gr.1 winner Success Express (USA), is a 30 year-old and has lived out his retirement at Vinery since 2006.

“This Lonhro colt has been an exceptional type from when he was a foal and he has the pedigree to go with good looks,” White said. “He’s a real racehorse, very athletic and is sure to be one of the highlights of the whole sale.”

Vinery’s Redoute’s Choice filly (Lot 130) from Regal Flute (Royal Academy) is a half-sister to Edward Manifold Stakes- Gr.2 winner Majestic Music and her dam is a sister to MRC 1000 Guineas-Gr.1 winner Serious Speed. Redoute’s Choice has been Easter Sale Champion for the past decade and his Gr.1 roll-call increased in 2014 with new elite winners Lankan Rupee, Bonaria, Hampton Court and South African filly Majmu. His first Gr.1 winner in 2015 arrived when Lankan Rupee won the Lightning Stakes at Flemington in late February, but he was denied another when Burnstone died shortly after winning the Blue Diamond Preview-LR on debut in January. Trainer Robbie Griffiths had rated him a front-line candidate for the Blue Diamond Stakes-Gr.1.

“Our Redoute’s Choice is a lovely, big filly with scope and quality,” White added. “She has tremendous residual value being a half-sister to a multiple Group winner by one of the country’s most proven stallions.”

Vinery has a winning track record selling stock by Commands, the 1000 Guineas-Gr.1 winner Commanding Jewel is a case in point, and there are two colts and a filly by the deceased champion in its Easter consignment. The Commands colt (Lot 7) from Kyria (Encosta de Lago-Rhema) is from the same Bint Marscay family as the More Than Ready-Bollinger filly. “This colt has always been a standout and is the first foal from a mare who was placed in the Silver Slipper-Gr.2,” White continued. “Being Lot 7, he will get us off to a great start at Easter.”

Later in the Sale, Vinery offers a Commands colt (Lot 369) from Sydney Gr. 2 winner Divine Rebel (NZ) (Don Eduardo), who is inbred to Eight Carat (GB)), and then a Commands half-sister to Gr.1 winner Tully Thunder (Lot 408) from the juvenile Gr.2 winner and Gr.1 placed Fleur de Chine (NZ) (Centaine), dam of nine winners and second dam of Wakeful Stakes-Gr.2 winner and VRC Oaks-Gr.1 second Thunder Lady.

Vinery has a regally bred filly among the first crop of So You Think (NZ) at the Easter Sale. The dual Cox Plate champion was in demand at the Gold Coast Magic Millions with two lots topping $430,000. His Easter filly, catalogued as Lot 188, is from Sing Hallelujah (by Breeders’ Cup Juvenile-Gr.1 winner Is It True (USA)), making her a half-sister to champion sprinter Hay List (15 wins, three Gr.1 and $2.5m). “I doubt she will let her sire and half-brother down,” White said. “She is big, strong and very tough, a quality type in her own right.”
