Puissance de Lune (ex Princess Serena by Unbridled’s Song (USA)) developed a cult following in Australia as he climbed though the classes with a series of dashing wins.

He’d won once and placed twice in France from four starts at three and then won six of his first nine starts in Australia including the Bendigo Cup-LR, Queen Elizabeth Stakes-Gr.3 (2600m), J.J. Liston Stakes-Gr.2 (1400m) and was a one-time Melbourne Cup favourite.

A fast stayer, he also dead-heated with Budriguez in the Blamey Stakes-Gr.2 (1600m) at Flemington, a track where he was runner-up to Happy Trails in the Turnbull Stakes-Gr.1 (2000m) and behind Foreteller in the Makybe Diva Stakes-Gr.1 (1600m). He was also third to Dissident at Fawkner in the Makybe Diva Stakes-Gr.1 (1600m) and third to Dissident and Sweet Idea in the Memsie Stakes-Gr.1 (1400m) at Caulfield. He retired with eight wins, five seconds and two thirds in 22 starts for earnings topping $852,000. His fee at Swettenham is $11,000.

His sire Shamardal (Giant’s Causeway (USA)-Helsinki by Machiavellian) was Champion Juvenile Colt in the UK when his wins included the Dewhurst Stakes-Gr.1. He was Champion 3YO Miler in GB the following season when his wins included the St James’s Palace Stakes-Gr.1, the French 2000 Guineas-Gr.1 and the French Derby-Gr.1.

He’s already sire of 76SW including the local Gr.1 winners Faint Perfume (Zabeel), Captain Sonador (Kenny’s Best Pal), Maybe Discreet (Bluebird) and HK champion Able Friend (Volksraad) from a brief shuttle career. His northern runners include dual French classic winner, leading young sire and shuttler Lope de Vega (IRE) (Vettori), juvenile Gr.1 winner Casamento (Always Fair) and Baltic Baroness (Sadler’s Wells).

Puissance de Lune’s dam, Princess Serena (family 7), a daughter of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile-Gr.1 winner Unbridled’s Song (Unbridled-Trolley Song by Caro), won at 1600m in the US, and her daughter Serena’s Storm (by Storm Cat son Statue of Liberty) produced the Irish juvenile Gr.1 winner Rizeena (Iffraaj). Second dam, Serena’s Sister (Rahy), is a sister to US 3YO Champion Serena’s Song (18 wins, $3.2m). Shamardal is a grandson of Storm Cat and this line has crossed well with this family including producing Gr.1 winner Sophisticat, a daughter of Storm Cat and Serena’s Song.

Puissance de Lune’s third dam Imagining is by Northfields from Image Intensifier by the grey Dancer’s Image (Native Dancer). His 10th dam Snow Maiden (The Tetrarch) won the Irish Oaks and her brother Caligula won the English St Leger. His five-generation pedigree features doubles of Rahy (4fx3f), Mr. Prospector (4mx5m), Northern Dancer (5mx5m) and Halo (5fx5f) and is free of Danehill (but has line breeding to his fourth dam Almahmoud, also second dam of Northern Dancer and Halo and fourth dam of Shamardal’s dam sire Machiavellian).
