Described by Kooringal’s Angus Lamont as “a speed horse who is the spitting image of his champion sire,” Sandbar retires to stud as a four times winner who raced in the best of company at two and three.

An eye-catching yearling bred by Strawberry Hill Stud, the $650,000 Magic Millions graduate did not have the easiest of runs at his first starts but he won both of them in determined style; a 1200m maiden at Canterbury then straight up in class capturing the Lonhro Plate-Listed, 1100m.

Continuing to race well throughout his juvenile season, Sandbar was a gallant second to Written By in the Pago Pago Stakes-Gr.3, 1200m in which there was a four length gap to the others.

Straight into form at three, Sandbar won The Rosebud-Listed, 1200m first up, losing no fans with his close up Golden Rose-Gr.1, 1400m fifth having worked hard from a wide gate. At his final spring outing finishing second in the Roman Consul Stakes-Gr.2, 1200m, he resumed finishing hard on the heels of the placegetters off another wide run in the Eskimo Prince Stakes-Gr.3, 1200m, adding another victory to his tally when successful in an 1100m contest at Rosehill later in the year.

One of the 109 stakes winners sired by Snitzel, Sandbar is a 3/4 brother to the Golden Slipper-Gr.1, 1200m hero Farnan out of the Vanity Stakes-Gr.3, 1400m winner Tallow.
