Baramul Stud Manager Paul Thompson is looking forward to the 2022 Magic Millions, confident that the famed stud’s draft is a high quality one of great appeal.

“It is a good draft with a mix of early foaling two year-old types and some later foals who will continue to improve.”

Having seven colts by star stallion I Am Invincible is somewhat of a coup for Baramul and of course they are all from outstanding families. First off the rank is lot 213 out of the stakes placed Redoute’s Choice Lipari, dam of the ATC Derby-G1, 2400m hero Levendi and the Group 3 winners Wu Gok and Marcel From Madrid.

Next up is lot 292 out of Mountain Laurel whose dam is the multiple Group One winner Private Steer whilst lot 446 is a half-brother to the stakes placed Time Is Precious from the family of Lotteria and Inferno.

Lot 453 is the first yearling out of the ATC Oaks-G1 winner Royal Descent to be offered for sale and also out of a high class race mare is lot 508 whose dam is the Oakleigh Plate-G1, 1100m winner Shamal Wind.
Descendants of Denise’s Joy continue to excel and lot 670 out of Villa Moura is a fine example, with lot 709 (half-brother to the Listed winner Confrontational) also from great family, that which produced Ethereal.

“The Lipari and Royal Descent colts are star lots and anyone shopping at the top end will be very well advised to check them out,” Thompson said.

So You Think is another stallion in form and his youngsters will be in as much demand as ever, Baramul excited to present a colt (lot 570) and a filly (lot 66). The former is out of Submissive, half-sister to the Vain Stakes-G2, 1100m winner Ingratiating whilst the latter is a sister to the Rosehill Guineas-G1, 2000m winner D’Argento.

Australia’s reigning Champion Sire Written Tycoon is also nicely represented in the draft by a filly (lot 183) out of the stakes winner Kryptelon and a colt (lot 538) out of Snitzel Blitz from a well known European family, that of the big race winners Arazi, Noverre, Joyeux Danseur and Jim French.

Meanwhile the multiple Champion Sire Snitzel has three fillies on offer, lot 250 from the prolific Summoned family, lot 351 a granddaughter of the dual Group 2 winner Palacio de Cristal and lot 556
a granddaughter of the Group 1 mare Isolda.

“The Palazzo Cristallo is a very precocious, strong type,” Thompson noted – a real two-year-old type.”

Zoustar is another big name in the draft with four; a colt (lot 295) out of the Oakleigh Plate winner Mrs Onassis, a colt (lot 459) out of the Group 3 placed Rule The River (another Thompson highlights amongst
the stars of the draft), a filly (lot 545) out of a half-sister to the Group 2 winner Sovereign Nation and a filly (lot 711) out of the stakes winner Zauberin.

Making an encouraging start to his stud career, Star Turn has nine due to go through the ring for Baramul including a granddaughter of the dual stakes winner Cannyanna (lot 712), a colt out of a half-sister to the Group 3 winner Heart Testa (lot 991), a great granddaughter of Jezabeel (lot 1199) and a grandson of the NZ Filly Of The Year Tartan Tights (lot 1222).

Also well represented with nine yearlings is All Too Hard, his draft inclusive of a filly out of a granddaughter of Skating (lot 1006), and from the same family a grandson of the stakes winner Zauberin (lot 1068) and a grandson of Ha Ha (lot 1182).

Shalaa’s three include a colt (lot 1096) out of a half-sister to the stakes winner Latin News whilst Willowy’s sire Kermadec has two including a daughter (lot 1191) of the fast Group 2 mare Magically. Shooting To Win also has a couple including a granddaughter (lot 1015) of the NZ Champion 2Y0 ll Quello Veloce.

Other highlights for Baramul include some lovely fillies… lot 571 by Pierro out of the city winner Shemai line-bred to her own fifth dam Klairessa, lot 875 a Not A Single Doubt out of a half-sister to the city winner Impavido, lot 891 by Brazen Beau from the prolific “Leica” family and lot 1132 by Press Statement from the family of Lotteria.

And some very nice colts as well… a Justify half-brother (lot 799) to the Group 3 winner Chivalry out of the Group 3 mare World Peace from the Denise’s Joy family, a Trapeze Artist (lot 223) out of a half-sister to the Hong Kong Derby winner Super Satin, a Vancouver (lot 965) out of a half-sister to Polar Success, a Headwater (lot 1017) half to the US stakes winner Broadway Missile, a Sidestep (lot 1077) from Vengeance Of Rain’s high class family, a Better Than Ready (lot 1080) half to two city winners, an Epaulette (lot 1115) from the Denise’s Joy family and and an American Pharoah (lot 1192) great grandson of dual stakes winner Cannyanna.

Paul Thompson was happy to answer a few questions for us…
What secret conspiracy would you like to start?
That Baramul is a better place to work than other farms!

If someone asked to be your apprentice and learn all that you know, what would you teach them?
That horses are a whole lot easier to deal with than people.

What’s something your brain tries to make you do and you have to will yourself not to do it?
Criticize.
