Squamosa to join Eliza Park roster

ELIZA PARK RELEASE – The dynamic Not a Single Doubt sprinter, SQUAMOSA, has joined the Eliza Park stallion roster for the 2013 breeding season.

Renowned for his explosive speed and regarded as the fastest horse in Sydney, Squamosa blew away his rivals to maintain an unbeaten record as a 2YO before establishing his credentials with a victory in the Run To The Rose in his first start at three.

Squamosa then produced a blockbuster performance in the Golden Rose – one of Sydney’s premier sprints – recording the fastest time in the race’s history despite being caught on the wire by Toorak Toff.

However, it was the demolition of older rivals in the time honoured June Stakes that was perhaps his finest moment, streaking away to score by five lengths and prompting veteran jockey, Jim Cassidy, to declare: “He’s a Group One sprinter without a doubt – he was explosive today … he’s not right yet so he’s going to be pretty frightening when they get him fit.”

A truly striking individual, Squamosa comes to Eliza Park with an impressive CV. Not only was he a better racehorse than his sire, Not a Single Doubt, he’s also out of the dual stakes winning juvenile, Class Success by Success Express.

A magnificent speed influence, Not a Single Doubt just goes from strength to strength with seven stakes winners to date this season – three of those at two.

Primary among them is the undefeated filly, Miracles of Life, who captured the Blue Diamond Stakes in February and another outstanding two year old in multiple stakes winner, Villa Verde.

Squamosa will stand his introductory season at a fee of $6,600: enormous value for such an impressive racehorse by one of Australia’s emerging speed sources.

Not A Single Doubt’s roll goes on in St Albans Stakes

Not A Single Doubt’s (Redoute’s Choice – Singles Bar, by Rory’s Jester) fairytale season continued when his two-year-old son Cruden Bay (Not A Single Doubt – Zimaretto, by Anabaa) scored an easy two-length win in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

Cruden Bay became the 16th stakes winner for Arrowfield’s sensational son of Redoute’s Choice, the seventh this season and the fifth in the past three weeks.

Bred by William Choy’s Best Western Group, Cruden Bay made an impressive winning debut at Bendigo only 12 days ago for his owner Bernard Lee who has enjoyed black type success in Singapore with another talented son of Not A Single Doubt, Always Certain.

Cruden Bay was a $60,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale purchase by his trainer Anthony Freedman and Michael Wallace Bloodstock from the draft of Brooklyn Lodge. His dam Zimaretto (by Anabaa) is a half-sister to Group 2-placed Lady Cay from the family of champion German mare Premiere Cuvee and Hong Kong Group winner Packing Whiz.

Zimaretto has a yearling colt by Snitzel, sold for $80,000 to Oliver Racing at January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, and the mare is in foal again to Not A Single Doubt.

“I’ll talk to (jockey) Glen (Boss). He’s not in the Golden Slipper because he was going to Singapore. It’s possible but we’ll just give it a bit more thought,” Freedman said.

“I’ll just be guided by what he thinks and what a few other people’s opinions are. He’s in the Sires’ up there, which is also a Group 1, maybe that’s a race for him.”

A good start allowed Boss to take Cruden Bay to the front where he controlled the pace before sprinting again in the straight to beat Gracious Prospect by two lengths with Excitable Boy a head away in third place.

“I would have preferred that he didn’t lead but he (Boss) did the right thing in the end,” Freedman said. He’s a very high quality horse and we’ll just see where we go. He’s got a big future.”

The two Not A Single Doubt yearlings in next month’s Inglis Australian Easter Sale, Vinery Stud’s filly from Sunset Express and Corumbene Stud’s colt from Dazzling (NZ), can expect plenty of attention from buyers.

No doubt about Blue Diamond champion

ARROWFIELD RELEASE – Ninety minutes after champion sire Redoute’s Choice reached his century of stakes winners, his first stakes winner Not A Single Doubt made history when his two-year-old daughter Miracles of Life brilliantly won the Group 1 MRC Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield

It was a fairytale come true for the filly’s trainer Daniel Clarken and jockey Lauren Stojakovic, who displayed fine professionalism to withstand the pre-race pressures and achieve their first Group 1 successes.

It was a fairytale re-lived for Miracles of Life’s owner-breeder Muzaffar Yaseen and his bloodstock manager Iris O’Farrell who first visited the Blue Diamond winner’s circle 14 years ago, when Redoute’s Choice sensationally won the 1999 race at his second start.

It was Arrowfield’s long-held faith in Not A Single Doubt as a Group 1 sire prospect justified in the most emphatic fashion, in one of Australia’s major juvenile contests. He had previously sired the domestic Singapore Group 1 winner Always Certain, but Miracles of Life is the first of his 12 stakeswinners to succeed in a race with full international Group 1 status.

Not A Single Doubt is among six sons of Redoute’s Choice that have sired Group 1 winners, the others being, Snitzel, Stratum, Bradbury’s Luck, Duelled & Fast ‘N’ Famous.

He is also the fourth of Arrowfield’s resident stallions to sire a Blue Diamond winner in the past nine years, after Redoute’s Choice (Undoubtedly, 2005; Nadeem, 2006); Starcraft (Star Witness, 2010); and the retired Flying Spur (Sleek Chassis, 2007). Former Arrowfield sire Hussonet, now based at Cornerstone Stud, sired the 2008 winner Reaan (with first season sire All American second).

The Blue Diamond result was the cause of jubilant celebration at Arrowfield’s sister farm, Bellerive Stud where Miracles of Life, described in stud records as “a very nice first foal with good bone and cover”, was born on 2 September 2010.

Bellerive’s Operations Manager Jo Monehan remembers, “She was a very correct filly, always small, but full of fun, with lots of get-up-and-go. She was always the first to do everything – just as she was at Caulfield.”

Her dam Dazzling Gazelle (by More Than Ready) remains at Bellerive where she is due to foal again to Not A Single Doubt this coming spring.

Miracles of Life settled perfectly just off the speed after jumping from barrier one, cornered sweetly and powered to a commanding lead which she maintained to the line, winning by 1.5 lengths from Fast’n'Rocking with a half-head back to Godiva Rock (by Stratum), in a time of 1.09.76.

Not A Single Doubt is the sire of 12 stakes winners, six of them successful as juveniles, including Villa Verde, an early favourite for Australia’s other major 2YO race, the ATC Golden Slipper G1.

Miracles of Life has now earned $730,100 and is unbeaten in four starts. Her $615,000 Blue Diamond prizemoney moves Not A Single Doubt into second position of the Australian 2YO Sires’ list with season earnings of just over $1 million.

Not A Single Doubt about Life’s class after Preview win

ARROWFIELD RELEASE – Not A Single Doubt began the week as the sire of the equal top-priced lot at the Inglis Classic Sale, and he ends it with a new star in the making, his 12th stakeswinner Miracles of Life.

The 2YO filly announced her arrival in Melbourne today with a dazzling win in a strong renewal of the $120,000 MRC Blue Diamond Fillies Preview 1000m LR.

Muzaffar Yaseen’s homebred filly jumped well from barrier 6 and travelled sweetly behind the early leaders until asked to acclerate around them on the turn.

Miracles of Life responded instantly and romped clear to win by 4.25 lengths in a 57.39 seconds – 0.72 seconds faster than the Colts Preview. Her performance was franked by runner-up Diamond Glow and third-placed Swing Vote, both impressive debut winners three weeks ago in Melbourne and Sydney.

Miracles of Life is now the $3.30 TAB favourite for the $1 million MRC Blue Diamond S. G1 on 23 February.

She is Not A Single Doubt’s second 2YO stakeswinner this season, following the equally impressive Villa Verde, an early favourite for the Golden Slipper S. G1. They are among six 2YO stakeswinners by the son of Redoute’s Choice.

The compact chestnut filly is the first foal of Dazzling Gazelle, an unraced daughter of More Than Ready and Snippets’ Jewel. Mr Yaseen’s Teeley Assets purchased Snippets’ Jewel for $210,000 from Vinery Stud in 2005. Dazzling Gazelle is based at Bellerive Stud where she is due to foal again to Not A Single Doubt in August.

Although Miracles of Life is not nominated for the Blue Diamond, she has, after 3 wins from 3 starts, earned enough to pay the late entry fee of $55,000. Her trainer Daniel Clarken said, “We’ll get her home and see how she pulls up first, that’s the most important thing and then we’ll go from there. But it looks like she deserves a late entry to me.

“It was three weeks into this run today. I think she’ll now go straight into the Blue Diamond.”

Teeley Assets’ colours of “Yellow, red square, orange & pale green hooped sleeves, red & yellow quartered cap” have been seen before in the Blue Diamond winner’s circle. They were carried to a memorable victory in 1999 by Mr Yaseen’s champion colt – and Miracles of Life’s paternal grandsire – Redoute’s Choice.

Not A Single Doubt filly- the ‘buy of the sale’ at Inglis Classic

First Light Racing co-founder Tim Wilson says the Melbourne-based syndicator landed “the filly of the sale” when he paid $135,000 for a daughter of Not A Single Doubt to provide one of the highlights of Monday’s second session of the Inglis 2013 Classic Yearling Sale Summer Book.

Wilson, the filly’s new co-trainer Mathew Ellerton and top bloodstock agent Paul Willetts prevailed in a strong bidding duel to secure the filly out of the Grand Lodge mare Happy Camper, who has produced two winners from as many foals to race.

Wilson said the team was thrilled to win the battle for the yearling after they earmarked her as the best buy of the sale during numerous inspections.

“She’s by Not A Single Doubt who has the current Blue Diamond (Miracles of Life) and Slipper favourites (Villa Verde) and this filly is the best of his progeny we’ve seen,” Wilson said.

“There’s a lot of Redoute’s Choice about her and she’s just a lovely moving filly with great shoulder and strong hind quarters. She was the best filly we’ve seen across the two sales (Magic Millions and Inglis Classic) this season and I think everyone here was on her.

“She’s worth every cent and more and we’re just thrilled to have secured her.”

Wilson said the early position of the Inglis Classic Sale Summer Book auction was the fact purchases will be able to wind down from the hectic period at the sales complexes before trainers begin to work on them to prepare prospective two-year-olds for an early campaign.

“The beauty of January sales is she’s straight into our system and that’ll give her every chance to make an early runner,” Wilson said. “She’s already on a float to Victoria and we’ll give her three or four weeks to recover from the sales before she gets broken-in and we start dreaming of the major two-year-old races with her.”

First Light’s new purchase will be on display at the operation’s open day at Glenfern Park in Romsey on Australia Day, January 26.

The filly was the second-highest Not A Single Doubt yearling sold at Newmarket on Tuesday after top Perth trainer Neville Parnham outlaid the equal top price of the sale when he paid $170,000 for a colt out of the Anabaa mare Fleecing, which is a brother to the Sydney city winner Conroy’s Gap.

NSW trainer David Vandyke also went to $170,000 to purchase a Magic Albert colt out of the Jan Murray mare Kianben, who was a winner in Sydney during her racing days and a sister to the stakes winner Nan Tien.

No Doubt about Adelaide nine-length winner’s speed

Not A Single Doubt’s (Redoute’s Choice – Singles Bar, by Rory’s Jester) ability to produce precocious female sprinters was highlighted again when two-year-old filly Miracles of Life (Not A Single Doubt – Dazzling Gazelle, by More Than Ready) sizzled around Morphettville on Saturday.

Miracles of Life won the Adelaide Cup March 11th Handicap by nine lengths in a time of 1:01.36 for Morphettville trainer Daniel Clarken and was ridden to victory by apprentice Lauren Stojakovic.

Miracles of Life is now unbeaten from two starts. She won a 1000-metre trial at Gawler by six lengths prior to winning on debut over 1000 metres at Morphettville Parks by 5-½ lengths.

She has accumulated $42,600 in stakes courtesy of those two victories.

A homebred for Teeley Assets, the breeders of the filly’s grand-sire Redoute’s Choice (Danehill – Shantha’s Choice, by Canny Lad),  Miracles of Life is out of More Than Ready filly Dazzling Gazelle (More Than Ready – Snippets’s Jewel, by Snippets) She was unraced and Miracles of Life is her first foal.

Not A Single Doubt has produced 11 stakes winners, including Karuta Queen (Not A Single Doubt – Card Queen, by Final Card), Single Style (Not A Single Doubt – Furla, by Spartacus), Single Spice (Not A Single Doubt – Zafforn Gal, by Galileo) and Villa Verde (Not A Single Doubt – Young And Free, by Kenmare). That quartet all managed to win Australian stakes races before the end of their three-year-old season.

The sire, which stood for $24,750 at Arrowfield Stud in the 2012 breeding season has also produced sprinting fillies such as Sweepstaking (Not A Single Doubt – Tennessee Sunrise, by End Sweep), Comearoundsundown (Not A Single Doubt – Voltara, More Than Ready),  My Girl Helen (Not A Single Doubt – Capricious by Whiskey Road) and Isabella Snowflake (Not A Single Doubt – Tiamo Baby, by Strategic) who were placed in at least one stakes race in either their two or three-year-old seasons.

Also among Not A Single Doubt’s arsenal is Arenzano (Not A Single Doubt – Marina Miss, by Grand Lodge), an exciting filly from Tasmania who ran fourth earlier this week in the Listed Tasmanian Guineas. That was the first time she had missed a place from seven starts.

Not A Single Doubt filly takes Debutants

Former Queensland trainer Shaun Dwyer prepared the former top juvenile Regimental Gal (General Nediym – Hallaya, by Yallah Prince) to win the Magic Millions 2YO Classic but he declared he has unearthed another promising prospect after Villa Verde (Not A Single Doubt – Young And Free, by Kenmare) won the Listed Debutants Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield.

Dwyer paid $95,000 for Villa Verde at the 2012 Inglis Premier Sale. The grey filly sprinted too well for the Gai Waterhouse-trained Overreach (Exceed And Excel – Bahia, by Snippets), scoring by 1-1/4 lengths, prompting the trainer to compare Villa Verde to the dual Group 1 winner.

“She is easy to train and I haven’t had a horse like this since Reggie (Regimental Gal) probably. She is bombproof,” Dwyer said.

“After she trialled, she won a jump-out by six (lengths) and ran 22.3 (for the last 400m) and on Sunday morning she ran 21.7 (for the last 400m)”

Villa Verde’s dam Young And Free (Kenmare – Sushi Rocket, by Salmon Leap) is out of a Group 3-winning half-sister to champion juvenile turned outstanding two-year-old sire Rory’s Jester (Crown Jester – Rory’s Rocket, by Roan Rocket).

Villa Verde is also from the same family as Golden Slipper winner Ha Ha (Danehill – Very Droll, by Crown Jester) and the handy stakes-winning sprinter Dry Humour (Danehill – Very Droll, by Crown Jester).

Villa Verde is the 11th individual stakes winner sire by Arrowfield Stud resident Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice – Singles Bar, by Rory’s Jester).

Not A Single Doubt colt wins Gold Sovereign

Cheyenne Warrior (Not A Single Doubt – Miss Argyle, by Iglesia) became the eight individual stakes winner for Arrowfield Stud sire Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice – Singles Bar, by Rory’s Jester) with his win in the Listed Gold Sovereign Stakes (1200m) at Launceston.

Cheyenne Warrior began his career with a smart win at Sandown on February 1. The promising colt defeated the local galloper Kenjorwood (Snippetson – Flying Diva, by Flying Spur) by a head to deny Snippetson (Snippets – Snowdrift, by Polish Precedent) his second stakes win in five days.

Victorian-trained two-year-olds have taken a liking to the Gold Sovereign Stakes in recent years.

The smart youngster Golden Archer (Rock Of Gibraltar – Viennetta, by Pins) won the race for the Peter Moody stable last year while Rock The Moment (Rock Of Gibraltar – Moment’s Pleasure, by Archregent) claimed the event in 2009.

Alfa (El Moxie – Spinning Reel, by Kaoru Star) took out the Gold Sovereign Stakes before winning the Group I Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in 1996.

Cheyenne Warrior fetched $80,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions Yearling Sale.

Substation (Not A Single Doubt – Princess Shorna, by Last Tycoon) completed a juvenile double for Not A Single Doubt with his win in the Sita Australia Maiden (1110m) at Doomben.

Knock On Wood too good

Not A Single Dount (Redoute’s Choice – Singles Bar, by Snippets) continued his good run of form with another new winner on Monday.

The Paul Perry trained Knock On Wood (2 f Not A Single Doubt – Shemada, by General Nediym) defeated Emperor Of Rome (Antonius Pius) by a length and a quarter in the $15,000 HTBA Country 2yo Plate (900m) at Scone.

Perry paid $42,500 for Knock On Wood as a yearling. Yesterday was her second start. on debut she finished ninth behind Hussousa in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes. The first foal of her dam, Knock On Wood is inbred to Danzig.

Last Friday Not A Single Doubt sired three winners around Australia and so far this month he has been represented by the Melbourne winner Cheyenne Warrior (2 g Miss Argyle) as well as the Brisbane winner Doubtfilly (2 f Aussie Enchantee). So far in February Not A Single Doubt has sired seven individual winners.

Not another treble!

Arrowfield stallion Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice – Singles Bar) sired a winning treble around Australia on Friday.¬†Anona scored at Ipswich while No Risque and Not A Dancer scored at Canberra.

No Risque (2 g Not A Single Doubt – Chancy Dancer, by Kala Dancer) showed plenty of speed to score in the $14,000 Actewagi 2yo Handicap (1000m), coming 2 lengths clear of Don’t Cross Mary (Gonski) at the finish.

A $70,000 Inglis Classic Yearling purchase, No Risque was making his racecourse debut.

Trainer Matthew Dale has enjoyed success with the Not A Single Doubt progeny and he enjoyed another winner when Not A Dancer (3 f Not A Single Doubt – Count The Dance, by Geiger Counter) raced home 2 1/2 lengths clear at the end of the $14,000 Brad White Plumbing Class 3 Handicap.

Anona (3 f Not A Single Doubt – Portland Park, by Woodman) revelled in the heavy conditions at Ipswich to defeat older horses in the $10,000 Ipswich Cup Marquees Maiden (1200m). At the finish she had 1 1/2 lengths over Who Cares Wins (Canadian Silver).
